Lexington Electric System Electric power is distributed in Lexington by the Lexington Electric System. The power is purchased from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and is delivered to the Lexington system through a 161,000/69,000 volt primary substation of 100,000 kW capacity. Service is also provided through four secondary 69,000/13,200 volt substations with combined total capacity of 95,000 kW and a recently completed 161,000/13,000 volt distribution substation with an additional 60,000 kW capacity. Lexington Gas System A municipally-owned natural gas system distributes gas purchased from the Tennessee Gas Transmission Corporation. Lexington Gas System has approximately 8,500 active consumers. There are 19 miles of transmission lines from TGT, 160 miles of distribution lines, and 41 miles of service lines; as well as 18 miles of 12" steel, 25 miles of 6" steel, 32 miles of 4" steel, 29 miles of 2" steel, 281 miles of 2" plastic, 49 miles of 3" and 4" plastic and four miles of 6" plastic. Lexington Water Works Lexington Waste Water System Lexington secures its water as a city system from Beech Lake. The filter plant allows filtration of 5.5 million gallons daily. Average use is 3,200,000 gallons per day. There are approximately 20,000 users on the city system. |
